Bodoland University: A Beacon of Higher Education in Western Assam. Established under the Bodoland University Act, 2009 by the Assam Legislative Assembly, Bodoland University came into existence on 28th February 2009 as the first and only institution of higher education in the western part of Assam. It has rapidly emerged as one of the fastest-growing universities in Lower Assam, dedicated to addressing the educational, socio-economic, and developmental needs of the region, particularly the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).As an affiliating State University, Bodoland University plays a pivotal role in providing access to higher education for the local populace, while also extending its academic outreach to adjoining states and neighboring countries such as Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. The University currently boasts 17 Postgraduate Departments, 53 Affiliated Degree Colleges, 4 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), 3 B.Ed. Colleges, and a Law College. In alignment with the University Grants Commission’s Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), the University offers Postgraduate and Integrated Five-Year Programs across various disciplines. Mandate of the Centre:
The Vision of the Centre is Capacity building & economic upliftment of frontline farmers by integrated zero waste management approach through Interventions on cultivation, processing, and value addition of mushroom. The aim of the centre is Socio-economic upliftment and empowerment of rural entrepreneurs in mushroom culture and farming especially women entrepreneur. with the objective of Bio conversion of agro solid waste through mushroom whose ultimate goal is providing alternative income to rural entrepreneurs by eco-friendly green energy.
Activity of the Centre:
The Centre is a nodal and centre of excellence in mushroom R&D and entrepreneurship. Till date the Centre has trained entrepreneurs across different states of India with its core in NER states of India in 24 Species of mushroom, its cultivation technology, spawn production and value addition . The mushroom species include 13 species of Oyster Species, milky mushroom, paddystraw mushroom, button mushroom, lionsmane mushroom, woodear mushroom, shiitake mushroom, Genoderma mushroom, Enoki mushroom, Turkeytail mushroom, Cordyceps mushroom etc. The Centre has got Quality Control Centre to analyse and assess mushroom sample including different variants of mushroom including Scanning Electron Microscope with EDX, HPLC with PDA detector and fraction collector.
